G"I cannot say enough good things about Half Moon Plumbing, and specifically Nicolas. After an unbelievably frustrating experience with another plumbing company, I called Half Moon for a second opinion. The difference was night and day. The first company's plumbers are commission-based, according to its own employment advertisements. Their plumber came out for a backed-up bathroom drain, but did not crawl under the house, refused to get on the roof, and did not check a single drain in either of our other bathrooms. After very briefly running a snake through the affected bathroom, he diagnosed a completely collapsed main sewer line in our FRONT yard, quoted us at least $3,500 to excavate and replace it, and actually had excavation equipment delivered to our house to begin digging. Nicolas approached the same problem completely differently. He crawled under the house. He checked the other bathrooms and drains. He got on the roof. He ran a camera. He traced the plumbing. Rather than jumping to an expensive conclusion, he took the time to understand how our system was actually configured and methodically worked through it until he isolated the real problem. He was also completely transparent throughout the process, explaining what he was finding, what he wanted to investigate next, and where we stood on time and cost. I never once felt like I was being sold something. I felt like I had a professional at my house whose objective was simply to diagnose our problem correctly. And that potentially saved us thousands upon thousands of dollars. Half Moon quickly disproved the previous diagnosis. The sewer line the first company claimed was "completely collapsed" in our FRONT yard was actually located in the BACK of the house — and it was completely intact. Excavation equipment was literally sitting in my driveway ready to dig up our front yard to replace a "collapsed" sewer line that was neither collapsed OR located anywhere near where the first company said it was located. Had we allowed that work to proceed, we would have been out AT LEAST $3,500 based on the initial quote alone. More realistically, I have no idea where the final cost would have ended up once excavation began and they couldn't find the pipe they had "diagnosed," or how much unnecessary damage could have been done to our yard and potentially our concrete walkways. This experience gave me a firsthand look at the difference between a commission-driven model and a service-driven one. When the person diagnosing a homeowner's problem financially benefits from selling a larger job, there is an inherent incentive that dictates diagnosis, often resulting in thousands of dollars in unnecessary work. Half Moon's approach was the complete opposite. Nicolas's focus was on investigating, diagnosing, explaining, and solving the problem correctly. A service company can try to maximize today's invoice, or it can earn a customer's trust and business for years. Half Moon clearly understands the value of the latter. They were professional, courteous, clean, punctual, respectful, transparent, incredibly thorough and, above all else, HONEST. Nicolas treated our house like it was his own and treated our money like it mattered. Half Moon didn't just earn five stars from us. They earned our future business. If you've received a frightening or extremely expensive plumbing diagnosis — or simply want a plumber who will actually investigate the problem before telling you what needs to be replaced — call Half Moon. I cannot recommend Half Moon Plumbing highly enough."
